Who We Are

We are a family business located in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast Australia, and we specialise in breeding and caring for hand-tame budgies. Our aviaries are set in over 8 acres of manicured grounds with a lake, a windmill and 400 metres of rock-pooled creek with beautiful views up the valley towards Hinze Dam

Our Ethos

To provide healthy, stable, happy, well-adjusted, hand-tame budgies ready for the home pet market

Kookaburra

You’ll see our aviary and superb breeding budgies kept in modern, clean, well-lit, ventilated surroundings and fed on fresh vegetables, salads and budgie-specific seed. We have the healthiest budgies you will find, and that shows in their temperament and personality – which is essential for hand-tame budgies to make good pets

Raising Our Budgies

We have done all the hard work for you, starting when our babies are just 4 weeks old. At this age, we take them out of their box daily to clean their feet and check that they have no issues that need dealing with
At about 6 weeks, the babies leave their nest box, and we allow their parents to continue to feed them and teach them how to fly. At this age, they are already practically hand-tame due to their daily handling, and for the next 2 weeks, we teach them to sit on the finger and shoulder and step up from finger to finger

When the babies are 8 weeks old, the parents usually want a well-deserved rest, and they stop feeding the babies, who will have become more than capable of feeding themselves by that time

Budgie on Perch

At this point, we separate them into conditioning cages with other babies of a similar age where they learn to socialise and most importantly, learn budgie etiquette which is so important to enable them to live happily with their budgie partner and also to live and bond with their new human family. Cage conditioning also prepares them to live and play inside and outside a cage, which is most important for hand-tame budgies that will be handled as pets.

By the time the babies are 8 to 12 weeks old, they are ready to go to their new homes after their new owners have selected them. We prepare them by ensuring they are fully treated for mites and worms and that treatment is certified so the new owners have a record of it if required. We then spend 30- 60 minutes with the new owner, showing them how to handle their budgies, how and what to feed them and how to bond with them

Wing Trimming

For most home pet situations, we recommend trimming the wing feather tips to slow the budgie’s flight so that there is less chance of the budgie injuring itself by flying too fast into glass windows, etc. We do this wing feather trimming free of charge and also offer to re-trim the feathers if required in 4-6 months when the feathers have regrown. This re-trim is also free of charge

Budgie Birth & Adoption Certificate

Remember that if your budgies are a gift for children, we also offer a free Budgie Birth & Adoption Certificate with your children’s names, a lovely little touch to make your gift memorable. Delivery is available in many areas, although we always recommend you visit to not miss out on the incredible experience of visiting Whispering Pines. Contact us for information on delivery

Budgie Hotline

Every new owner also gets free use of our Budgie Hotline with any questions answered by our experienced staff by phone, text message, email, Facebook or website instant chat.
