Just Budgies is a family business located in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast of Australia, and we specialise in breeding and hand-taming beautiful budgies. Our aviaries are set on over 8 acres of manicured grounds with a lake, windmill, and 300 metres of rock-pooled creek, with beautiful views up the valley towards Hinze Dam.

When you visit us, you can look at our aviary and our superb breeding budgies that are kept in modern, clean, well-lit, well-ventilated surroundings and fed on fresh vegetables and salads and our special ‘budgie specific seed’. We have the healthiest budgies you will find, which shows in their temperament and personality, which is essential for hand-tame budgies to make good pets.

Our ethos is to provide healthy, stable, happy, and well-adjusted hand-tame budgies ready for you to take home. We have done most of the hard work for you, starting when our babies are just 3 weeks old. At this age, we take them out of their box daily to clean their feet and check that they have no issues that need dealing with. At the age of about 6 weeks, the babies leave their nest box, and the parents continue to feed them and teach them how to fly and ‘crack seed’. We train them for the next 2 weeks to teach them how to sit on the hand and shoulder and step up from finger to finger. At 8 weeks old, the parents usually want a rest, and they stop feeding their babies, who are more than capable of feeding themselves by this time.

At 8 weeks, we separate them into ‘conditioning cages’ with other babies of a similar age where they learn to socialise and, most importantly, learn budgie etiquette to live happily in their family community with other budgies. Cage conditioning also requires them to live and play inside and outside a cage; this is most important for pet birds, who must learn to bond with humans.

At 8 to 12 weeks old, they are ready to go to your home after you have selected them from the 400-500 that are always available. We ensure that they are fully treated for mites and worms and spend 30-60 minutes with you to show you how to handle your budgies and how and what to feed them so that you bond with them quickly.

For most home pet situations, we recommend trimming the wing feather tips to slow the budgie’s flight so there is less chance of the budgie injuring itself by flying into glass windows, etc. We do this trimming free of charge and offer to re-trim the feathers if and when required when the feathers have regrown, this re-trim is free of charge.

Our three-month health care plan covers all of our budgies, and we happily treat any issues or ailments that occur free of charge at our premises.

Every new owner gets free use of our ‘Budgie Hotline’ with any questions answered by our experienced staff by phone, text message, email, FaceBook, or website enquiry. Our other ongoing services include ‘Budgie Sitting’ for times when you need your budgies looked after, such as holidays and emergencies etc., ‘Budgie Therapy’ for budgies that have behavioural problems or need hand-taming or need special training (for special needs people, etc.). We mix our seed specifically for budgies as shop bought seeds are far too high in fat and often lead to fatty liver disease. Our seed is mixed daily on-site and posted out to our customers as required or can be collected to save postage.

Our on-site workshops produce handmade playgrounds and bird-safe toys, and an amazing selection of playgrounds is always available, each being a unique work of art. Playgrounds start from just $39.

We manufacture our cages and matching stands as we own ‘Castle Cages’, and we retail our cages at wholesale prices to our customers to save them money and ensure that they get the correct cage design for their hand-tame budgies. Most cages bought from pet shops are incorrectly designed for budgies and are sold at inflated prices. Check out our range before you buy anywhere else. Returns Policy

Where budgies are purchased that subsequently prove to be unsuitable, they can be exchanged once only by returning to our premises within seven days of purchase. Cages, playgrounds, accessories and seeds can be exchanged at our premises if found to be faulty within 30 days of purchase.
